The only 5-1 score belonged to "IRON CITY" who dropped sixth to Gary & Richard. (Didn't come in for picture)- They won over Bars-Tri City, Top Notch & Bear Trap, Iron Bell, Red Devil, Los Benitez Ranch, CopperHead and White Water and lost to BLACKMAN with Leon Herron feeding and pitting. Leroy Purser and Mack Majors bred, Robert Purser fed, and Randy Purser pitted. The last entry to go for 7-0 was "SNAKE EYES & BOX CARS" (the Purple Heart bunch) in short knife. Also in the picture (that I don't have) were Ryan Gorospe, Lance Alayvilla, Lance Nobriga, and Devo (along with Goober and Kevin). Goober and Kevin Berch fed cocks bred by Joe Fuentes, Chunky Glick, Kyle and Kirk Skipper, and themselves. "TUMBLING DICE-ROYAL OAKS" won over Travis Pumpkin, One Man Team, SAWB, Brian & Loze Lane, Yellow Rose, Casco, and lost to CHESTUEE of Tom Wilson. Two other entries won six and looked unstoppable - WRONG! They both met awesome birds that kept them out of the winners' circle. Their Greys fought just as good as they looked! In other entry they won over Rolling Hills, Manard Bayou, Bars Tri-City, Pops, Cigar-Pond Creek, and drew sixth with Mavarro Fernando.
Winning entry met Cobra, Watermelon, Black Warrior, Bama Knights, Claret Club, Club 141, and Tex-Tenn-Ok. The Osbornes were on a roll winning 7-0 in entry pitted by Jerry Wesson and drawing 6th in entry pitted by William Osborne.
"LOS PINOS", pitted by Sam Taylor, won over Little River, E & J, Sundance, Los Benitez Ranch, Club 141, Ventura Jaimes, and Pear Tree. They won over Black Cobra Farm, Lone Oak, Snake River, Joe, CB/SB, Watch Me, and Purple Heart. "TRIPLE H" from Alabama was the long knife entry and the first one to win 7-0. The break down on entries was 150 short knife and 116 long knife with one long knife entry winning and two short knife entries 7-0. Information about each winner is included under their pictures. You have seen pictures on the previous two pages of the three 7-0 entries that split this prestigious derby. Some mighty fine birds were fought all three days but they brought out the cream of the crop on Saturday! There were 266 entries in the annual 7-cock Hawaiian-Independence Day derby at Texoma Saturday, June 30, 2001.
